Shuttle Bus Services

Overview

The Peralta Shuttle service launched in Spring 2026 after students passed a resolution reinstating a transportation fee, with fees supporting two vital transportation services: AC Transit EasyPass (available for students taking 6 units or more in a semester) and a Peralta shuttle bus service.

Fall 2026 Shuttle Program

Routes

• Laney College <---> College of Alameda

• Laney College <---> Berkeley City College

• Laney College <---> Merritt College

The shuttle service uses a “spoke and hub” model, with connections going through the hub at Laney. For example, if a student wants to get from BCC to Merritt, start with the BCC ---> Laney bus, and connect to the Laney ---> Merritt bus.

Schedule

Travel to either Berkeley City College or Merritt College

20-minute travel each way • 5-minute campus layovers on Trips 1-11 • Final trip uses a 15 -minute campus wait so the last departure is 5:25 PM.

Travel to the College of Alameda (COA)

10-minute travel each way • 5-minute layovers on Trips 1–19 • Final trip uses a 15-minute campus wait so the last departure from COA is 5:25 PM.

Eligibility to Ride

• Must be a current student, faculty, or staff
  

• All current students are eligible (including non-credit and dual enrollment students)
  

• For students: a valid Peralta Colleges Student ID is required
  

• For Faculty and Staff: 

  all faculty and staff must present a valid Peralta employee ID badge when boarding. Employees without their District-issued ID badge may not be permitted to board. ID Badges can be made at your local college free of charge.

• To access the bus, a rider should show the driver their Student or Employee  and use their smartphone to create a “Smart-tag” QR code to log their presence on the bus. Each student will have their own unique Smart tag QR Code for accessing the bus.

Berkeley City College – in front of the main entrance on Center Street	College of Alameda – on the cul-de-sac section of Campus Loop Road, near Cougar Village and Building H
Laney College – by the flagpole, near the intersection of Fallon and 9th Street	Merritt College – at the regular bus stop on Margie Lane, just off Campus Drive

The bus drivers are PCCD employees and are part of the District Service Center Facilities & Operations department, directed by Bc Hoff.

Non-Shuttle Bus Use

Since the drivers are employees and the buses are owned by Peralta, non-shuttle use is available for field trips, campus visits, sporting events, and the like. The buses made their maiden voyage January 9-11, 2026, with Carl Penney taking some MESA scholars on a trip to Southern California for university visits for students planning to transfer. It was a successful trip and saved the district – and our taxpayers – thousands of dollars compared to renting a similar service. Eventually, requests for bus service will be incorporated into “Facilitron” (the system used for facilities rental), but for now, please send your requests to Bc Hoff at bhoff@peralta.edu and CC Jamille Teer (jteer@peralta.edu).
