Guiding Principles

The Organizational Ombuds is a member of the International Ombuds Association (IOA) and adheres to the following standards of practice from the organization:

 

Informality

The Organizational Ombuds is an informal resource and does not participate in any formal complaint processes or procedures outlined by the Peralta Community College District.  The Office of the Ombuds is not authorized to receive “notice” of claims against the Peralta Community College District.

Confidentiality

All meetings and communications held with the Organizational Ombuds are considered confidential; information is not disclosed unless given permission to do so. Exceptions to this include, but are not limited to, imminent risk of serious harm to the health and safety of the visitor or others.

Impartiality

The Organizational Ombuds acts as a neutral party in all situations.

Independence

The Organizational Ombuds is an independent entity and functions at the highest degree possible within the Peralta Community College District and does not report to a function or entity that could affect, or be perceived as affecting, the Ombuds’ independence.
