Originally known as Channel ‘S’ and later ‘PCTV’, the TV station was founded by Laney students and faculty to provide hands-on experience in television operations. The TV station was a student-managed and operated station. It was the first in the nation to employ this model. Students volunteered, then moved into part-time instructional aide jobs and built their video resumes before leaving to join the industry. The station has shown courses for credit, created award-winning documentaries, and helped convey Peralta’s message to the public for over forty years.
