What is Accreditation?
The WASC Accreditation website (2008) states: Accreditation is the process for evaluating and assuring the quality of educational institutions and programs. Colleges may be accredited at the regional, programmatic and national level. “It is a uniquely American quality assurance process through which institutions collectively set standards for good practice, conduct peer-based evaluations of institutions on a regular basis, confer accredited status on institutions, and make the results of accreditation review known to the public.”
What is WASC?
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is the corporate entity that consists of three separately organized commissions within the western region. The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges evaluates and accredits public and private postsecondary institutions that offer two-year education programs and award the associate degree.
What is the purpose of a Self-Study?
The self study is conducted to determine if an institution should be accredited initially or as a prelude to the periodic accreditation review to giving the institution a set of criteria to evaluate its quality, and the achievement of its mission
COA Accreditation Status
