  • CountryWatch : Provides full text up-to-date news and information on 192 countries of the world. It features current and in-depth cultural, political, economic, corporate, environmental, and other education-related issues through journal articles, newspapers, speeches, conference proceeding, research, and etc.
  • CQ Researcher : Offers  in-depth coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.
  • Encyclopedia Britannica : All the articles from the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
  • Ethnic NewsWatch : Covers current issues and events discussed from the viewpoints and perspectives of various ethnic groups and races.
  • Expanded Academic ASAP : Provides access to a wide variety of disciplines including: social science journals, humanities journals, science and technology journals, national news periodicals, general interest magazines, newswires, The New York Times and many others.
  • Gale's Discovering Collection : A comprehensive database of reference content for the areas of Literature, History, Biographies, Science, and Social Studies.  When performing a "History Search," search results can be limited to Era, Event, or Topic Overviews as well as Biographies or Primary Documents.
  • LexisNexis : Provides full-text documents from over 5,600 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications with a variety of flexible search options. LexisNexis provides authoritative legal, news, public records and business information; including tax and regulatory publications in online, print or CD-ROM formats.
  • NetLibrary : Provides digital full-text access to over 8,000 books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction.
  • NewsBank (Global) : An online program providing expansive coverage of global issues and events from multiple perspectives and diverse primary sources from around the world.
  • SIRS Researcher : A general reference database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, historic, economic, political, and global issues. Articles are selected from domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals and government publications.

SUBJECT HEADINGS - U.S Women's History

If you search the Library's online catalog for the keywords “women and history” you will find more than 700 hundred entries and may be perfectly satisfied. By limiting your search to subject heading terms, the number of entries you find in the catalog will be smaller and more manageable to browse and the entries should be on the subject you are searching for.

The LC subject heading “Women” can be followed by subdivisions, which can be geographical, topical, chronological, or by form.

  • Examples of subdivisions include: United States, Nebraska, History, 19th century, or Biography.

  • These can be strung together in a fixed order: Women-United States-Biography or Women-Massachusetts-History.

  • Several subdivisions that are particularly useful for locating primary sources are: Sources, Diaries, Narratives, Correspondence, or Interviews.

  • The heading “Women” can be followed by an occupation, as in Women poets; Women social reformers; or Women surgeons.

  • The phrase “Women in” can be followed by terms such as Women in advertising; Women in computer science; or Women in literature.
